Vostok First Cosmonaut / "Gagarin"

This dial design was possibly introduced in 1991 to celebrate Gagarin’s first ever journey into outer space on a ship called Vostok 1.

Model number: 020694
Movement: Vostok 2409 A (manual)
Lug width: 18mm
Case: stainless steel round case #020, ~40mm, screw-down crown
Period: 1991-1993

There are quite a few variations of this dial and the one I have here features the words “First Cosmonaut” (Первый Космонавт). Other variations include dials marked with “Komandirskie” (this is the one featured in the catalog, with a red star at 12 o’clock) and “Vostok” (with a red 12 at 12 o’clock). There are also versions with Ostwok’s logo (Ostwok was Vostok’s distributor in some European countries such as Germany) and later versions without “made in USSR”. Most of the time I encountered this watch in the round Amphibia case with a manual movement.
